In lieu of a fashion film, Magaajyia was tasked solely with creating an empowering film celebrating women and the female identity. She produced, co-directed and starred in Terma, in partnership with writer and director Elias Borst. Set against the background of a Grecian island, Terma is a modern reinterpretation of the ancient myth of Ulysses told from the perspective of the female protagonist, Hera. Inverting the trope of independent and sexual women portrayed as a danger to men in the original myth, the heroines in Terma save Ulysses and put him back on course to continue his journey.
Over the course of the several days the story unfolds, Hera too is at the precipice of self-discovery. On arrival, she appears lost yet her introduction to Aglaope and Pisinoe, leaves Hera with a new acceptance in her own identity. The collection is an evolution to a looser fit, with timelessly carefree pieces which can be easily pivoted for a multitude of occasions.
The collection is rooted in an understanding of the new ways they live their lives and how they dress, as the world is re-emerging. There is a new daywear attitude, with relaxed silhouettes and transitional separates. This is a very appealing and grand address to start with, but what has been done is to provide a kitsch retro s and s feel to the interior with original period lighting features and sofas in iced velvet on the first floor.
Anyone visiting will feel they have become an extra in a Sean Connery Bond film and you almost expect Blofeld and a white cat to be seated in the next room. Maybe and maybe not. The interior is urbane and the staff are both on brand and welcoming. This should add up to. The collection, for men in particular, is a somewhat disparate series of pieces, however, and it could be a little hit or miss. That said, if you move in the rarefied circles that can afford this kind of thing, then there will probably be something that will turn the gaze.
