Artificial tears will also be used abundantly to help keep the cornea smooth and moist during the healing period. The final outcome and speed of healing of the LASIK procedure are directly related to the care that is taken from the cornea after the procedure.
It is very important to keep all postoperative appointments with your doctor. Following LASIK surgery, patients usually experience a rapid recovery due to the fact that only a tiny portion of the eye is actually operated on.
Most of our patients are able to drive themselves back to our facility the day following their surgery to meet with the doctors for their follow-up appointment. The procedure is designed to treat patients who are myopic nearsighted and hyperopic farsighted.
More recent advancements in technology now allow us to also treat patients with high levels of astigmatism. The newest customized iDesign advanced wavefront guided technology, used by the Kraff Eye Institute, helps Dr. Kraff achieve highly accurate results. LASIK is essentially a 2-step process. Step 1 is where Dr.
Kraff uses the Intralase Femtosecond Laser to create a very thin flap on the surface of the cornea.
Step 2 is where Dr. Kraff lifts the flap and uses another laser to reshape the cornea. The reshaping of the cornea allows the light traveling through the eye to hit the retina, thereby correcting your vision.
At your consultation visit, we will check your current vision with and without your glasses or contacts. During the examination, we will measure the thickness of your cornea, take a topography of your eyes map of the top surface of the eye , and check the overall health of your eyes. These tests along with an examination with Dr. Kraff will let you know if you are a candidate for refractive surgery. One of our refractive counselors will go over the procedure in detail with you and answer any questions you might have regarding the surgery.
You will then have the opportunity to meet with Dr. Kraff, who will let you know if you are a candidate for laser vision correction, and answer any additional questions you may have. Depending on if you wear contact lenses, and the type of lenses you wear, surgery can be anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks following your initial consultation. If you wear specialty lenses, Dr. Kraff will instruct you on how long you need to be out of your contact lenses prior to surgery. On the day of surgery you will want to plan on being in the office for about 2 hours. LASIK surgery can improve the vision of patients with a variety of refractive errors. Please, learn more about our LASIK procedures below and schedule a consultation to see if you are a good candidate.
On the day of surgery, you should expect to be in the office for about 2 hours. Refractive procedures reshape the cornea, the clear membrane on the front part of the eye, to give the patient the clearest visual image. LASIK is the most popular of these procedures. Which procedure would work best for you will be determined by you and your ophthalmologist after an initial evaluation.
Factors such as the amount of refractive error and corneal thickness will need to be measured to decide upon the best procedure.
LASIK laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis is an outpatient procedure performed to correct refractive errors, most commonly nearsightedness. The flap is then lifted and a second laser is used to sculpt the cornea. The flap is then placed back into its original position.
Astigmatism is an irregularly shaped cornea. Wow how amazing it is to see for the first time since I was 7 without glasses or contacts. Highly recommended. Procedure is uncomfortable duh but quick 10 minutes?
Recovery after is definitely painful for about hours. The associates and Dr. McGlothan provided exceptional service all the way through! I couldn't be more satisfied with the treatment. One word of advice might be for the associates to speak a little more slowly when conducting preliminary assessments of the eyes. I understand there are many patients and the need to be efficient, but this will provide the patient with a clearer understanding and may cut down on questions. Overall, great experience!
Fantastic service from start to finish. My eyes are very difficult to work with, but the staff powered through two consultations and Dr. Horn managed to perform the surgery with relative ease.
